       OUR FEES

                                                                 Pricing

At McKenzia Solicitors we represent Private Clients. We represent clients on a private basis to ensure that we continue to provide bespoke services which involve having the expertise of an experienced Solicitor Advocate from the onset.

In some instances we work closely with leading barristers and experts on our clients's cases to achieve a successful outcome. We provide our clients with the option to choose the Barristers or experts to work on their case.

We do not offer Legal Aid services as often there are certain instances where legal aid is not available to our clients. This applies to most investigations or proceedings before a regulatory body. Our clients prefer to fund their case privately in order to ensure the availability of a particular Solicitor, Barrister or expert for example, representation by Queens Counsel (QC) is not always available under legal aid.

At McKenzia Solicitors we are committed to keeping our clients informed of our Fees to provide transparency of our costs. We recognise that some clients can decide whether to fund their case privately notwithstanding that they may qualify for legal aid. Our fees are always competitive and we are happy to discuss these with you. In certain circumstances we may offer up to 30 minutes free telephone legal advice to establish the nature of your case and the best possible route of action, such circumstances are cases relating to Benefit Fraud interviews and Regulatory interviews under caution.

Recovery of Defence Costs

It was the case, historically that clients could recover their costs in full if they were successful in obtaining an acquittal. This has now changed and privately funded costs can be recovered under a Defence Costs Order.

Legislation provides that non-legally aided privately paying clients in the magistrates’ court will be entitled to recover their legal costs under a Defendant’s Costs Order if they are acquitted, but the amount will be limited to the amount that would be payable under specified legal aid rates. This tends to be around 20 – 30% of private fees.
